How Can I Help?
How can I volunteer at Tyddyn Bach?
Tyddyn Bach has volunteers in a variety of roles, making an enormously valuable contribution to the running of the Centre. The skills, time, commitment and experience which volunteers have to offer allows us to give so much more to everyone that comes through our doors. Remember, anything you can do which saves or makes the Trust money will enable us to spend more on their care, and make a real difference to all.
What sort of people volunteer at Tyddyn Bach?
Over thirty volunteers bring a wide variety of experience, knowledge and skill. This allows us to provide 24 hour care, maintain the building and grounds and provide a variety of services. As we are a non medical centre a health background is not required; the main requirement is that volunteers need to be able to listen and are keen to learn. Basic induction is mandatory for volunteers and further training is available. We embrace diversity and respond to individual need.
Equally it is expected that they will :
- encourage people to tell their own story in their own time and space
- refrain from offering advice and instead offer confidential emotional support
- always try to see the other point of view, regardless of their own religious or political beliefs
- question gently, tactfully - without intruding
- have drive and a positive outlook on life.
- be willing to be flexible.
What do volunteers do at Tyddyn Bach?
There are many part-time non residential opportunities available as can be seen from the list below. These however are not exclusive; you may have a special skill that we cannot afford to miss out on - but that is not shown, like arranging recreational activities for guests, for example.
- Complementary therapies
- Driving
- Befriending
- Staffing reception
- Night sleepover duties
- Helping in the kitchen
- Gardening and house maintenance
- Fundraising
- Administration
What commitment would I need to give?
Typically we ask that you commit more than three hours per week; thus enabling productive use of time. Beyond this however the number of hours is dependant upon yourself and the volunteer role.
Keeping people safe
Tyddyn Bach Trust performs appropriate CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks on all volunteers who will be working on behalf of the Trust. Again, Basic induction is mandatory for volunteers and further training is available.
Yes I want to become a volunteer; what now?
Ask for an application form either by telephone or email. Once completed we can then arrange an interview at the Centre for you to discuss your requirements.
